Just some data for your amusement.

Groups.io currently has 16,797 groups.

The 7x12MiniLathe group (which had moved to Group.io awhile back) ranks 20th in size there with 7.947 members. Pretty big group.

If the GrizHFMinimill moved there (which I take it isn't going to happen), it's current 4,966 member size would rank it 56th in size at Groups.io. It is also a very large group.

Most of the groups I'm in are moving to groups.io which is a site basically designed for disgusted Yahoo group members. They will transfer over a group automatically (though members have to go to the groups.io for and join there). I have not heard of any complaints from anyone about their service. (But I think if you want files and photos they charge the group a fee of about $100/year).
