Re: [GrizHFMinimill] Yahoo Groups: Important changes

Oh yes, fun stuff for me, not necessarily for many others.

A general purpose PC board that can be anything from a star trek tricorder to a piece of electronic test equipment to a controller for a CNC mill (and yes, I've got an X1 that I partially converted, may end up making sensor mounts on the 3D printer).

Hardware's pretty much designed, software's about 85% depending.  Mostly infrastructure stuff then on to the actual making it work.

I have a unimat I may do a CNC conversion on, now that I know how to do it properly.  (replace the way bars with something longer to hold the steppers).

I am not sure either.

At any rate I am onto other interests now. Just received a CNC Laser engraver/cutter today for example. Now that my machine shop is all built, I prefer to make stuff for myself rather than put time and effort into a group for others. Just about have a G0704 milling machine converted to CNC. I guess my priorities are changing now that I am old.

Hope you are doing fun things.

Good idea, we shall.

I have no idea if creating a new group (rather than importing one) would cost any money on groups.io.

I understand Harvey.

I feel the same.

All these guys with awesome advice about our continuing the group are free to create, and manage, and manage, and manage their own groups.

Thanks, lets keep in touch.

There's not enough activity to warrant it, in my opinion.  The cost is also a factor.

Are you interested in moving the group?

I haven't even owned an X2 mill for the last 15 years. My passion for the X2 faded long ago. Let me know if you would like to keep this group going and i will give it to you.

Thank you

As of October 28th, Yahoo groups will make changes:

For their complete official announcement, please go to yahoogroups.com.

The announcement, in part, says:

Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 28 you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.

Following are two quotes:

FIrst:

Photos and files can be saved right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can download your data from the Privacy Dashboard.

Second:

removed features:

  • Files
  • Polls
  • Links
  • Photos
  • Folders
  • Calendar
  • Database
  • Attachments
  • Conversations
  • Email Updates
  • Message Digest
  • Message History
I would personally suggest that you download anything you think would be of interest before the end dates.

There are no plans to move the group to another host.
