RE: [mlathemods] South Bend 14" Taper Attachment (need help)

I didn't post any images, other people did, including Reg.

If you've never heard of Reg, he is by his own admission the world's greatest.

For example, using his great skill, intellect and specially designed and engineered tools he can align his table saw to under 0.00001 arc seconds or some such, something us mere mortals could only dream of doing.

That's before he does the bolts up, of course.

He's a funny bloke, that Reg.  Always good for a laugh.

Of course he never deem to ask a mere lowly woodworker how it's really done.

I was a little startled to see this as I don't recall ever seeing a post to the list and I thought yahoo had shut them all down.

I have a Clausing 4902 with a taper attachment. They are pretty simple. Attached is a photo from the 1934 Southbend catalog of the version they sold then.

Have Fun!

Hey guys (only generally speaking, gals too),

It's my first post in a very long time. A very close friend of mine is restoring an old South Bend 14" Lathe. Somewhere along the way, a previous owner buggered up the taper cutting attachment. Some of the old pieces are there, but not all of them. We would like to figure out what will be needed to complete this restoration. We intend to make some drawings of some parts, using AutoCAD. I have not yet seen the lathe, supposedly everything has been done with the exception of what I stated above.

Do any of you have a similar lathe with the Taper cutting attachment? We are looking for some general help, Possibly photos and some dimensions.

Thank you all in advance for any and all help.

Johnny Chops
