FWIW, check the brushes and brush holders. My Micro-mark lathe is in the
middle of a tear-down and Roy on the 7x12 group pointed out that sometimes
the brush holders get loose and give weird symptoms. I was getting arcing
on one brush, vibration and bumping noises and speed changes. All I did was
to remove the brushes, pull of the drive end cap, pull the screws on the
brush end cap, reseat everything and retighten. There is a not a baby's
bottom that is as smooth as this motor since ... Go figure!
