[GrizHFMinimill] Re: $50 mini-mill power feed

That was me that built the power feed, you can view other photos of the project on my photo album on this group:

When I looked for motors I saw alot of those Chinese listings, they all appear to be a similar motor with different ratios, I just couldn't trust the specs. If the torque is 80 oz/in (5 lb/in) then it should work, I was afraid they might be specifying a "locked rotor" torque, where the one I selected spec'd it at 6 lb/in @ 144 RPM. Since mine draws just under 2 amps at full load, that trasnlates to about 48 watts, if theirs is 2 amps at 12V, that's 24 watts, so it has to be about half the torque. It is a nice compact motor, so let us know how it works out.

As for the clutch arrangement, check out the photos, I know the engagement cam is hidden, I'll take it apart and get some better photos of it, but it's essentially a bolt head turned off center in a lathe to produce a tiny crank pin that rides in the slot in the sliding hex shaped clutch.

Might be spending a lot of time designing around a motor that's on it's last legs and can't be replaced. Also, while window motors might be small enough -- although likely to have a mount on the side not the front-- the wiper motors can be about as big as the spindle motor. That motor above is something like 1.5X4.

The gearbox is type 6DG however the motor is 6H which has larger diameter of output shaft, increased to 8mm. Look for Gear ratio 25:1 for exact parameters. Bought on eBay but no longer available."
