I saw that someone had setup 3 rings (60, 70, 80mm) with the same O.D. and I.D. for a camera macro light. This was intriguing so I followed up. Here's the thread on that on another forum for modelmakers:
http://wap.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=186242&page=1#1570286
I added some detailed notes from my findings, and pics of the setup I made for my wife's camera (70, 80, 90) since I wanted to use her stuff to "beta test" the design.
I haven't measured current myself yet but some reviewer on dealextreme measured about 125ma draw per ring at 12V. That 4.00 12V 1A power supply (same as Robs) is supposed to be good to 800ma in reality. Even with that, I think I should be able to run the 3 rings and the festoon (about another 250ma as specified) on the single power supply. I'll post back if I smoke it.
I plan to mount with 3M auto body trim tape -- outstanding stuff. The cool side effect of this concentric setup is that it provides clearance for the little shaft that sticks out the bottom of the head between the quill and the column. With a flush mount it will bump.
Overall, it's amazing. Thanks Rob. The light is so bright when you're looking at it I need to squint. It's very focused so not very useful for ambient lighting as seen in some of the photo folders.
