had a flock of green cheek conures squawk out:
>I know I'm being a whiner but that cooling fan has a nasty startup noise. It has always done that and always calms down after a few minutes. But, it's so easy and inexpensive to replace (I'm guessing) that I thought I might try a new one. Does anyone have any recommendations? Any info on any interesting specs would be great too -- size, bolt pattern, CFM if that really matters, and voltage (which I think is 12 based on other posts).
It should be a 40mm x 10mm fan. Measure across the fan, not the bolt
holes, to make sure. One place to get it is from a computer parts
place. For example, www.frozencpu.com has one for $4.99.
If you have an old unused pc, steal the cpu fan from it. :-)
If you oil the fan, it'll quiet it down for a while. Carefully peel
the label on the side with the wires and put a drop or two on the
shaft.
