I’m of the opinion that we are not talking about similar mills.  Would someone take a look at Grizzly’s site and the specs on the small mill-drill and tell me if I’m off base discussing it in this group?

Ah, OK, many of the folks here use the little X2 mini-mills. There are a fair number of even smaller X1 users and also a fair number of X3 users (which is what you have). There are also some folks who have much larger machines but hang around here anyway because an active group beats a dead silent group hands down. :-)

If you would like to see your SIEG (Shanghai Import Export Group) X3 mill with a red paint job, you can visit mini-lathe.com and look over their section on the X3.

You are most certainly in the "right" group, it's just with so many X2 owners you may have to specify you are running an X3 in some conversations is all. I was unaware of any head drop issues on the X3 that would require any counterweight or gas spring mods. Basically I just assumed you were one of the large mill owners around here since you guesstimated 160 lbs just for the head. I honestly don't know what an X3 head weighs but 160 lbs seems kind of high. I DO think if I went to pick up one of these in a crate I would definitely need to have a friend or two along! :-)

The SIEG X3 in Grizzly warpaint:
Little Machine Shop sells a LOT of X3 stuff so that could be a help with things too from time to time.

Here is the substantially smaller and lighter X2 in Grizzly warpaint (G8689). This is the machine with the head drop issues, so there have been many, many discussions concerning air springs and counterweights and such concerning these thing. Makes for an easy assumption when air springs and counterweights are being discussed.

Sorry for the confusion, but again that is no big deal on a group with X1's, X2's and X3's all hanging around. :-)

 Cheers,
 John Z.
