On that note, I got rid of the "dust cover" the day I got the mill.
You could cut a groove in the draw bar hex and make your spindle lock clamp into the groove.

I have been thinking about a spindle lock. It's one of those things that I might make only if and when I need it. The picture in my head looks like a brake band which attaches to the head in place of the bearing dust cover and clamps onto the spindle. The material would have to be springy enough to insure it does not rub when disengaged or easily removed when not in use.
