Thanks for posting this - the nylon 1'' webbing is a great idea - I happen to have few hundred feet of it ;)
The weight of 25lbs is also good idea.
BTW, I have finished my exo-skeleton for the mini-mill. I found out that 6x2 C angle is a bit too flexible - needed to weld supports and make it 6x4. For counter weight I will need to use two pulley's and have it slide inside of the C.
The main cool benefit of the project is the new 21 inch Z - plenty of space for rotary tables even with large chuck and adapter plate.
The main drawback is the huge amount of work required and the pain of getting the setup aligned - I think the whole thing is still experiencing some post welding stresses. Once I have her installed on a work bench I post some pictures of the mini-monster.
