A year ago, my decades-old internet mail service (attglobal.net)
notified me that they were dropping free support for internet mail.
Fortunately, my ISP also had free mail service so I wasn't worried about
transferring IDs and establishing a new mail address.
BUT, what I discovered was that with respect to my Yahoo forum files and
file folders (but interesting, not photos/photo folders), those
files/folders belonged to the combination of my Yahoo profile ID AND my
email (or in their vernacular, "alias"), not just my profile ID. The
minute I changed to my new email ID those files/folders became read-only
to me - I could not modify/delete a file within a folder, nor could I
delete the folder or change anything about it.
As a test, I added a file under my new ID to an existing folder,
switched over to my old ID, and VOILA - the new file was unmodifiable
using the old ID. I switched back and easily deleted the file. I
decided to retain my old ID as an alias but add my new email ID and make
it my primary one. Now, even with the old "attglobal.net" email
invalid, to Yahoo it's an OK alias and I can switch over to it if I need
to access old stuff of mine.
To see all this yourself, do the (painful) following (I hope I get all
the steps correct):
1) click on your name in the upper right corner of the Yahoo screen
after logging on
2) click on 'Account Info'
3) click on 'Manage Aliases' at the bottom
4) click on 'Add an email address' under 'Identities'
5) enter a new address then click on 'Save'. An email will be sent to
that address to verify it. Respond as directed.
After the email has been accepted, log out/in to Yahoo and select a
group. In the upper right corner you'll see the word "Membership" with
a down arrow (here again, you must be within a group). Do the following
1) click on the word 'Membership'. You'll see your Profile ID and email
address
2) click on 'Edit Membership'
3) as you move your cursor across the word 'Identity' , a little
"pencil" should occur to the right with the command 'Edit Settings'.
Click on that "pencil"
4) to the right of 'Email Address' should be your current, and the
newly-added, email adresses associated with your profile ID. Select the
new ID, SAVE the change, and follow the exit process.
Find one of your file/file folders (again, not photos/photo folders) and
try to edit the folder or one on the files therein. I think you'll see
what I described above. Go back 'n switch to your current email and try
again - all should now be working.
Needless, all the above was a painful process to me, as there was no
documentation available, and the group moderator who tried to help me
was as equally flummoxed. I hope you're never forced to go through it.
Graciously,
Jim E.
