I thought about something similar, using 1/2" copper pipe (like many others, I have some odds & ends in that). I was looking at my 3/4" scraper and it looked like it wouldn't work in that situation, but your 1/2" scraper could fit the bill. It depends a lot on the thickness of the scraper handle. I have 1/2" and 1" copper pipe, so my 3/4" scraper isn't a good match for either of them.
Please let me know how your scheme works for you.
