RE: [GrizHFMinimill] Where to start

I bought my mini mill from Little Machine Shop in California. You didn't say where you are located, I assume you are in the USA since you are looking for 0.050 dials, but there are people here from all over world so I shouldn't assume anything.

I went with this machine from LMS.

It has the solid column, the brushless 500 watt motor which eliminates the need for the Hi/Lo gears that tend to break, and the air spring to assist the raising of the head. It is priced at $895.95 plus shipping and weighs in at 176 pounds. I think that is the shipping weight. The machine weight is listed as 124 pounds

It does not come with 0,050" dials, but LMS does sell 20 TPI conversion kits that will make it 0.050" per turn, but it looks like they are currently out of stock, but I'm sure they are getting more in.

The machine comes with dials that are 62.5 thousandths (0.0625") per turn.

I've been very happy with this mini mill and LMS is a great place to do business with.

Subject: [GrizHFMinimill] Where to start

I am looking for a mini mill. It seems like a <$1000 budget is where I want to be, and the ability to move it on my own is a must.
I have been looking for a used machine for months, but I've only seen one locally, and for the same cost as purchasing it new. I expanded my search range, but any potential savings are eaten by shipping.
Where do you guys get your machines? Are there reasonably priced used machines available with enough tooling to get started?
Going new it would appear that I get the HF mill, use a 20% coupon, and get some metal gears and tooling for it. I would also like the .050 dials if I can afford them.
Thanks guys!
