All three of the incline motors I have have a capacitor with a red and a black wire (separate lugs) going to the capacitor from a SPDT switch.  The switch selects whether the red or black is powered by the AC and this determine the direction of rotation of the motor.  So, white goes directly to the mains common, the mains hot goes to the switch common (through a fuse or breaker) and the red and black from the capacitor connect to the two other terminals on the switch.

Yes, shaded pole motors are quite hard to reverse; difficult
but not impossible to reverse! But these are permanently split capacitor
induction motors with the direction of rotation set by the inclusion of
the capacitor in one of the winding circuits! I will try to post a
simplified circuit diagram. Bill in Boulder
