Dunno. It strikes me that any flexable link from the top, can only react force in one direction: down. All other cutting forces can only be reacted through the gibs, or by the mass of the head assembly.

Perhaps you could rig up something temporary and try it. Maybe putting an indicator in the spindle and applying force in each direction. This is pretty iffy, though. I think the only real test is in the cutting, and I've been satisfied with the performance I'm getting now.
