Re: [GrizHFMinimill] Beginner questions

Hi Troppo:

I started out with the little 3 basis DRO that uses capacitance pickups (like caliper scales). It is hard to get the electrical plus to work well. TPAC Tools has a proper glass scale DRO for about $150 more that comes with proper glass scales that work all the time.

The advantage to CNC goes way beyond just making duplicate parts, the ability to tell the machine to go to four digits reliably is also a huge thing. Here is another, CNC can produce round cuts, and angular cuts with ease which means you can cut chamfers and circular interpolate holes. This adds an order of magnitude to your machining ability.

G`day guys
Sick of me yet lol. The friend of a friend that offered me the clamping set told me to check out ebay for DRO`s so i did. I found these in 6 inch, 12 inch, 24 inch up to 36 inch. What do you guys think of these for our little mills? I havent got the cash to buy the full cnc kit (as much or more as the damned mill) and cant se the value of it at this stage, but like the idea of being able to perfectly duplicate a certain piece of work to a known set of figures.

Cheers
Troppo
