I can do a bit better than that, it's a Printrbot Simple Metal (got it
as a kit) with a heated bed.

The direct link is
http://printrbot.com/shop/assembled-simple-metal-with-heated-bed/

As to why that one? I found decent enough reviews, it was metal and
not wood, had most of the features I wanted (except a dual extruder,
which is "nice" but not absolutely needed).

It was expensive, but not overwhelmingly so, yet not so cheap that I
had the feeling that if I were to sneeze, the bits and pieces would
decorate the wall.

I have no desire to push this kit above all others, but I will discuss
(perhaps a bit later) the shortcomings of this particular kit, and
what they did properly. Note that the cost of the kit is the same as
the assembled one, so you would want to check if they're including
anything with the kit to make the assembly effort worthwhile.

There's lots of other approaches out there, and reading the reviews
will tell you what many people think is wrong with them, and what
others feel is right.

I will say that most 3D printers apparently do *not* do perfect work
out of the box, and what you need to do is understand (and play with)
the parameters for the particular machine (and environment!) to get
the best results.
