[GrizHFMinimill] Heavy mills

Hi Listmates

I faced this issue 6 months ago and would like to toss a couple of ideas into the discussion:

Buy an engine crane - the "stork" like, cherry-picker structures that go for up to $200 new and $100 s/h (craigslist). You can - with care - push these around the shop with an average benchmill on the hook with few problems. The legs on these cranes fold up for storage. Advisable to remove heavy bits before lifting anything for moving where possible - motor, table, etc. Use the crane hook and a sling to support these while you're removing them, too.

Alternative is the short version of these cranes, sold for bolting onto the back of trucks when you need to lift that bear carcass off the forest floor and onto your truck bed. I bought one of these cranes and bolted it on the top of a  48"-high, 10"-square tower of beams bolted together and to the wall next to the garage entrance. I'll put a photo in the Photos section if I can.rgeards
