Your chuck should be marked for jaw one.. I have never seen chuck jaws not marked, ever. Each jaw will be stamped with a number. If the chuck has never been marked, start at any slot, insert jaw one, rotate towrd you insert jaw two, rotate towrd you insert jaw three. If you use a couple heavy rubber bands around the chuck jaws to hold them in place, turn the scroll backward, jaws will start dropping in the scroll and then pop back up. When the #1 jaw drops, reverse rotation of the scroll plate, continue to turn untill all jaws are tight, if they do not all meet in center. Rotate until all are back at outer perimeter, move all jaws back one position and tighten all again. With a tree jaw chuck, if you are not lucky, the third time they will be center. If you are a green light person in life, all jaws will center on the first attempt. The rubber bands works just like having fingers on each jaw, making it very easy to see #1 dropping in place. A very simple procedure... CaptVR, Ret.
