RE: [GrizHFMinimill] Sorry in advance for the basic nature of my question/Quick change collet chuck

if you bought your collet chuck new there are normally instructions telling you this , if not ask your supplier.

The MT chucks are designed so that the collet is locked into the nut when the chuck nut is tightened by way of the chuck taper and the shank or stock being secured aliigning the axis of the chuck  collet and nut. When the nut is slackened it releases it releases the grip of the collet on thee work

When the nut and collet are removed from the chuck the "tail" of the collet can be pushed sideways so its bore is no co-axial with the nut and the two parts can be separated. The new collet is fitted by reversing the process, ie offering it at an angle to the nut and straightening its bore axis locking the two togehter

Subject: [GrizHFMinimill] Sorry in advance for the basic nature of my question/Quick change collet chuck

Hello

In hoping to speed tool changes in my mini mill, I have purchased a collet chuck set MT#3 ER-32.

I hate to ask but my question is this: How do you properly load a collet as well as your cutting bit into the chuck? Is it simply held in place by the nut? (I understand that the spanner tightens the nut) If so how do you remove the collet after removing the nut?

I know it is a basic question but how is this done the right way?

Once again thank you all for you advice and support.
