My experience with adding remote reading DROs has been good, overall. The only real issue has been electrical noise getting into the electronics and causing erratic readings. I found it necessary to shield the DRO cables using braided shielding & connecting the shields to the mill where the rest of the ground connections are.
While aluminum foil initially worked OK,, apparently the connection from the foil to the wires became resistive and the erratic measurements returned. Solder braid (and SOLDERED WIRES) permanently fixed that problem.
